Decaf Turkish coffee has always been a contradiction in terms — until Selamlique made it work. This 125 g tin of Kafeinsiz Türk Kahvesi from Selamlique Istanbul is fine-ground, loose coffee ready for the cezve, brewed the traditional way: slow heat, rising foam, grounds settled at the bottom of the cup.
The beans are 100% Arabica from the Rio Minas highland region of Brazil, grown at 800 metres above sea level, sun-dried in the field, then roasted to a medium profile at Selamlique's Izmir facility — which operates under ISO 9001 quality management and ISO 22000 food safety certifications. After roasting, each bean is stone-ground to the ultra-fine consistency required for Turkish coffee, reducing a single bean into up to 35,000 particles. That level of grind is what creates the characteristic body and foam; it has nothing to do with caffeine, which is why this decaf brews with the same creamy top as its caffeinated siblings.
Decaffeination is carried out using a water-based process, which preserves the bean's natural oils and aromatic compounds. Selamlique lists the caffeine content as 0%. For reference, EU food regulation (Directive 1999/4/EC) defines roasted decaf coffee as containing no more than 0.1% caffeine by dry weight — this product is stated by the manufacturer to meet that threshold.
Tasting notes (from Selamlique): balanced acidity, soft body, medium-intensity aroma, creamy finish — the same profile as Selamlique's Traditional blend, without the caffeine.
