Koz Grape Pestil with Hazelnut is a traditional Turkish fruit leather (pestil) made from concentrated grape molasses and studded with roasted hazelnut pieces. Pestil is one of Anatolia's oldest natural sweets: real fruit juice is slowly cooked down, spread into thin sheets, and dried until it turns soft, chewy, and deeply flavorful. This one is made by Koz, an Istanbul nut-and-dried-fruit house with roots going back to 1974.
Each 250g block carries the dark, caramel-like sweetness of grape (uzum pekmez) balanced by the toasty crunch of hazelnut. It is made without glucose syrup or gelatin, so the sweetness comes from the fruit itself rather than added syrups. The texture is dense and pliable, the kind you tear into pieces rather than bite cleanly.
How people enjoy it: alongside Turkish tea or coffee, sliced onto a dessert or cheese board, tucked into a lunchbox, or eaten on its own as a chewy afternoon snack. It travels well and keeps for months in a sealed container, which is why fruit leather was a pantry staple long before modern snacks existed.
Allergen information: Contains hazelnut (tree nut). Traditional pestil is typically made with wheat flour or starch, so this product may contain gluten, and may contain milk. It may also have been produced in a facility that handles other tree nuts. Always check the on-pack label for the full ingredient and allergen list before eating.
