These are large, whole Turkish sun-dried figs from Bahçemden Yöresel, picked plump with the stems still on and dried the traditional Aegean way. The colour is the pale golden-amber of figs grown in the İzmir and Aydın region, where the local Sarılop cultivar (historically known as Smyrna figs) has been grown for generations. Bite into one and the inside is soft, jammy and honey-sweet, a little like lokum, with the faint crunch of tiny seeds.
This is the big-size grade, so each fig is generously plump rather than small and flat. They are dried on the fruit and finished under the hot Aegean sun, with nothing added but time and heat. Eat them on their own as a naturally sweet snack, chop them into yoghurt, porridge or breakfast bowls, bake them into cakes and energy balls, or pair them on a board with Turkish cheese, walnuts and a little honey.
