Menengiç coffee is a traditional drink from southeastern Türkiye, made from the roasted, ground fruit of the wild pistachio tree (Pistacia terebinthus, also called terebinth). Most associated with Gaziantep, where it has been part of daily life for generations, it is naturally caffeine-free and has a warm, nutty taste with a gentle roasted bitterness. This pouch contains 150g of finely ground menengiç powder.
Unlike Turkish coffee, menengiç is most often prepared with milk, which gives it a smooth, creamy body and brings out its pistachio character. It can also be brewed with water for a lighter cup. The powder dissolves into a rich, latte-like drink that is popular served hot, though it works chilled over ice as well.
The reputation of this regional specialty was formally recognised in 2024, when "Gaziantep Menengiç Kahvesi" was granted Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status by the European Union, acknowledging its geographic and cultural roots in the Gaziantep region.
