Antep pistachios take their name from Gaziantep, the southeastern city at the heart of Turkish pistachio growing — in Turkish, the everyday word for pistachio is literally "Antep fıstığı". Ülker has been making confectionery since 1944, when brothers Sabri and Asım Ülker opened a small biscuit workshop in Eminönü, Istanbul.
