Sesame-coated date balls with tahini are a simple Turkish snack built on real ingredients: soft date paste worked through with stone-ground tahini, rolled by hand in roasted sesame seeds. Each piece is naturally sweet from the dates themselves, with a nutty, slightly toasty finish from the sesame and a soft centre when you bite in. No chocolate, no filler — just dates, sesame and tahini doing the work.
They are made by Lokum Atölyesi, a confectionery workshop in Afyonkarahisar in western Türkiye, a region long associated with tahini, clotted cream and traditional sweets. The recipe is short: date paste, sesame, tahini, a little corn starch and powdered sugar, and citric acid. That is it.
Both vegan and gluten-free, and Kosher-certified, they suit a wide range of diets. They travel well, need no fridge, and work as a desk snack, a pre-workout bite, an after-dinner sweet with Turkish coffee or tea, or something to put out for guests instead of heavier pastries.
