Karadut is the black mulberry (Morus nigra), a dark, ink-colored fruit grown across Turkey, famous for staining everything it touches a deep ruby red. Kayla Gurme turns it into a granulated Turkish fruit tea with real black mulberry pieces in every spoonful — the same style of tea scooped from big glass jars in Istanbul's bazaars and often sold abroad as Ottoman tea.
The granules dissolve straight into hot water, so there is no steeping and no strainer. The cup comes out dark red with the scent of ripe berries and a sweet-tart mulberry flavor. The base is already sweetened with ground beet sugar, so there is no need to add any sugar at the table — and because it contains no tea leaves, it is naturally caffeine-free and easy to drink in the evening.
To prepare, stir 15–20 g (about 1–1.5 spoonfuls) into a 150 ml cup of hot water and adjust to taste. For iced tea, dissolve the granules in a little hot water, then top up with cold water and ice. Keep the pouch tightly closed in a cool, dark place after opening, and always use a dry spoon.
- 250 g pouch — makes roughly 12–16 cups, a sensible first size
- 1 kg pouch — roughly 50–65 cups, for households that drink it daily
- Box of 20 single-serve sachets — one cup each, handy for the office, travel, and guests
Ingredients: beet sugar, black mulberry fruit, acidity regulators (citric acid, trisodium citrate), black mulberry flavoring, anticaking agent (silicon dioxide), colorings (chocolate brown, red beet). Kayla Gurme is a Turkish brand built around fruit-piece teas, and black mulberry is among its signature flavors.
