Roasted Turkish hazelnut kernels from Giresun, the Black Sea region recognised as the heartland of Turkish hazelnut growing. These are whole, peeled kernels of the Tombul ("round") variety — the plump, glossy hazelnut that Giresun is named for — double roasted (çifte kavrulmuş) in the traditional Turkish way.
Double roasting means the kernels are roasted twice rather than once. The result is a deeper, more pronounced nutty flavour and a firmer, crisper bite than single-roasted nuts. The thin brown skin (testa) is removed after roasting, leaving clean golden kernels ready to eat or cook with straight from the pack. Tombul hazelnuts are prized for their high natural oil content, which is what gives a roasted Giresun kernel its rich, buttery taste and satisfying crunch.
These are roasted kernels, not raw — no roasting or peeling needed at home.
Ways to use them:
- Eat by the handful as a snack, on their own or in a nut and dried-fruit mix
- Chop into granola, muesli, yoghurt or porridge at breakfast
- Fold whole or chopped into cakes, brownies, biscotti, cookies and breads
- Blend into homemade praline paste or hazelnut spread
- Pair with dark or milk chocolate, or stir through chocolate desserts
- Scatter over baklava, halva and other Turkish and Middle Eastern sweets
- Grind into hazelnut meal for macarons, tarts and pastry bases
Available in 100g, 250g, 500g and 1kg packs, so you can buy a small bag to snack on or a larger size for baking. Keep the pack sealed in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight to keep the kernels crisp.
Contains hazelnut (tree nut). May be processed in a facility that also handles other tree nuts. Delivered to your door from a curated range of Turkish foods.
