Hafiz Mustafa is the patisserie most visitors to Istanbul come home talking about. The house dates back to 1864, when Hadji Ismail Hakki Bey opened a candy shop in the Bahcekapi quarter during the reign of Sultan Abdulaziz — his son, Hafiz Mustafa, gave the shop the name it still carries. Today the brand has branches from Istanbul to Dubai and London, and this tin is how Hafiz Mustafa packs its pistachio baklava.
Inside the red metal gift tin is an assortment of Hafiz Mustafa's pistachio varieties arranged in neat rows: green sarma rolls packed with ground pistachio, classic diamond-cut baklava, ring-shaped dolma pieces crowned with whole kernels, and chocolate-glazed pieces for contrast. The pistachios come from Gaziantep in southeast Turkey, the region Turkish baklava makers consider the source of the best kernels. The phyllo is rolled thin in the Turkish style — far thinner than most baklava made abroad — then layered with butter, baked, and finished with light syrup.
Three tin sizes are available: a small box of roughly 750–800 g, a medium box of 1–1.1 kg, and a big box of 1.9–2 kg. Each order is packed fresh at the patisserie in Istanbul, so the pastry stays crisp rather than sitting in a warehouse. Baklava keeps for several days at cool room temperature and can be frozen; a brief warm-up before serving revives the texture.
Contains wheat gluten, pistachio (tree nut), butter and milk, and egg; chocolate-glazed pieces include cocoa and white chocolate.
The tin itself, stamped with the 1864 founder's seal, is the standard way Turks carry baklava to a host — which makes this as natural a gift as it is a dessert for your own table.
