Fiskobirlik Hazelnut Paste is a smooth, creamy hazelnut butter (Turkish fındık ezmesi) made from roasted hazelnuts grown along Turkey's Black Sea coast. Fiskobirlik is the famous Giresun hazelnut cooperative, founded in 1938 and home to the protected Giresun hazelnut - widely considered among the finest in the world. That origin is the whole story here: the nut does the work.
The texture is thick and spreadable, with the warm, toasted aroma of real hazelnuts and a light vanilla note running through it. A natural layer of hazelnut oil may rise to the top - that is the nut's own oil, not a sign of spoilage; simply stir it back in before use.
Ingredients: hazelnuts (70%), sugar (30%), natural-identical vanilla flavouring (vanillin). No preservatives, no added colours, no palm oil. It is a sweetened hazelnut paste, not a sugar-free or chocolate spread - so it tastes purely of hazelnut rather than cocoa.
How to use it: spread it on warm toast, simit or fresh bread for breakfast; swirl it into yoghurt, oatmeal or pancakes; or use it straight from the jar as a baking and dessert ingredient - fold it into cakes, fill cookies and pastries, layer it in crepes, or drizzle it over ice cream. Lightly toasting the bread first brings the hazelnut aroma forward.
Sizes: available in 180g, 300g and 400g jars, so you can try a smaller jar or stock the pantry. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Contains hazelnuts and may contain traces of other nuts and seeds.
