Chado Natural Matcha is whole powdered Japanese green tea, milled to a fine, vibrant-green dust from shade-grown leaves. It is a premium gyokuro-type matcha, packed in a 50g tin with no additives or fillers - just pure stone-ground green tea.
Matcha begins as tencha: tea leaves shaded for roughly two weeks before harvest, then steamed, dried, de-stemmed and slowly stone-milled into an ultrafine powder. Because the whole leaf is whisked into the cup rather than steeped and strained, matcha is fuller in colour and flavour than ordinary loose-leaf green tea, and naturally contains caffeine and the amino acid L-theanine as part of the leaf itself.
Taste and texture:
- Smooth, fine powder with a deep, vivid green colour
- Fresh, grassy aroma with the rounded umami note typical of shade-grown Japanese matcha
- Clean finish, no additives, sweeteners or colouring
How to prepare a traditional bowl:
- Sift about 1-2g (roughly half a teaspoon) of matcha into a bowl
- Add around 60-70ml of hot water at 70-80°C - never boiling, which can turn the taste bitter
- Whisk briskly with a bamboo chasen in a zig-zag motion until a fine froth forms
Beyond the bowl: this matcha also works as the base for an iced or hot matcha latte with milk of your choice, blended into smoothies, or folded into baking, ice cream and desserts where its colour and character come through.
Store the tin sealed in a cool, dry place away from light and strong odours to keep the powder fresh and green.
