Beta Tea Taç Yaprak Turkish Black Tea is a 1kg (1000g) loose-leaf black tea made from 100% Turkish tea, grown and processed on Turkey's Eastern Black Sea coast. "Taç Yaprak" means "crown leaf" — Beta's top-grade leaf, drawn from the upper, younger leaves of the plant. Beta sells it internationally under the English name Crown Leaf.
The leaves come from the high slopes of the Çatak region of Trabzon, where altitude and the cool, damp Black Sea climate slow the growth and concentrate the flavour. Beta Tea is a brand of Beta Gıda, a Turkish company founded in Adana in 1978; its Turkish tea is processed at the company's factory in Sürmene, Trabzon.
In the cup this is a classic Turkish black tea: a deep, coppery-red infusion, full body, and a malty, gently brisk aroma. Because Taç Yaprak is a top-leaf grade, it brews strong — you typically need less leaf than ordinary Turkish tea to reach the same colour and strength.
How to brew the Turkish way: use a çaydanlık (stacked double teapot). Add the dry leaf to the small upper pot, fill the lower pot with water, and bring to a boil. Pour boiling water over the leaves in the top pot, then let it steep over low heat for 10–15 minutes. Serve in small tulip glasses, diluting each glass with hot water from the lower pot to taste — strong (koyu) or light (açık). Take it plain or with sugar.
Net weight 1000g (1kg) of loose-leaf black tea. Store in a cool, dry place, sealed away from light and strong odours, to keep the leaf fresh and aromatic.
