This is the hot grade of Turkish pul biber — real chili heat, not paprika and not the mild stuff. Arifoğlu labels it Acı Kırmızı (acı means hot), and that is what you get: coarse, red-brown crushed pepper flakes with the seeds left in, in a sturdy 1kg stand-up bag. If faded "crushed red pepper" that tastes like nothing has let you down, this is the corrective — big flakes, deep color, honest heat.
What pul biber is. The Turkish kitchen's everyday crushed chili: dried red peppers crushed into flakes rather than ground to powder. Because the seeds are kept in (çekirdekli), it carries more bite and a fuller flavor than seedless or powdered versions. Cooks who know Aleppo pepper will recognize the family — this is the hotter cousin.
Who it is for. People who want fire. Sprinkle it over grilled kebabs, köfte, and lahmacun; stir it into lentil soup (mercimek çorbası) and brothy soups; finish eggs and menemen; build a proper pasta arrabbiata; or melt it slowly into oil and butter for Turkish chili oil (biber yağı) over manti, pide, hummus, and roasted vegetables.
Why 1kg. A full kilogram is the value pack for heavy users — cooks who reach for chili daily, large families, and small restaurants, kebab shops, and cafés. Less per gram than small jars, and it keeps its color and punch when stored sealed, away from heat and light.
Hot vs the milder grades. This is the spicy one. There is also a medium pul biber for a softer heat and a sweet (tatlı) pul biber that is mostly color — pick those for kids or color only. Choose this one when you want heat you can feel.
The maker. Arifoğlu has been a spice name since 1944, when the family opened in Istanbul's historic Spice Bazaar; the year 1944 is printed on the pack. Single ingredient: crushed hot red pepper, seeds included.
