Seven citrus fruits in one jar, and not a grain of refined sugar between them. This is Antalya Recelcisi's 7 Citrus Jam - a Mediterranean-style preserve of bitter orange (turunc), bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, sweet orange, mandarin, and kumquat, cooked to 65% fruit so it tastes like the orchard, not the sugar bowl.
It is made in Antalya, the heart of Turkey's citrus country, by Ansu Gida - a family firm founded in 1989 that began making jam under the Antalya Recelcisi name in 1995. The fruit is picked ripe and cooked slowly in vacuum kettles kept under 60C, a gentler method that protects the colour, aroma, and fresh-fruit character. The result is a deep amber-orange spread, smooth and easy to spread, with visible flecks of citrus peel and pulp.
The flavour is genuinely unusual. Bergamot and bitter orange bring a grown-up, faintly bitter Mediterranean edge - the note you find in good English-style marmalade - while kumquat adds a candied sweet-peel character and the mandarin and lemon brighten it. It reads as a marmalade-style citrus preserve, sweet and sour at once, rather than a simple sweet jam.
There is no refined sugar, no glucose syrup, no sweetener, and no additives. The only sweetness comes from the fruit itself and a little apple juice concentrate, with lemon juice to balance the acidity. It does still carry the natural sugars of the fruit, so it is a no-added-sugar preserve rather than a sugar-free one.
Ways to use it:
- Spread it on warm toast, simit, or fresh bread
- Stir a spoonful through plain yogurt, labneh, or porridge
- Pair it with cheese, especially a salty white cheese or aged kashar
- Use it as a glaze for roast poultry, or a filling for cakes
- Add a teaspoon to hot tea for a citrus lift
Net weight 290g. With no added sugar to preserve it, keep the jar cool and dark, refrigerate after opening, and use a clean, dry spoon. If you like marmalade, or want a fruit-forward citrus spread that is not drowning in sugar, this one earns its place on the table.
