A set of six small Turkish ceramic bowls, each about 8 cm across, hand-glazed and hand-painted in the Iznik (çini) tradition. The interiors carry classic Ottoman floral work — stylised tulips and carnations woven through rumi scrollwork — in reds, blues, greens and gold against a luminous white ground. The çini decorative style traces back to the workshops of Iznik, in Turkey's Bursa province, which flourished in the 15th and 16th centuries supplying tiles and tableware for the Ottoman court.
Because every piece is painted by hand, the set arrives in six assorted colours drawn from a palette that can include green, yellow, red, navy, black, white, orange and turquoise. The exact colour mix varies from set to set, and each bowl's pattern is slightly different — no two are identical, which is part of the appeal of handmade ware.
The bowls are fired on a stoneware body with a food-safe glaze, sized for serving small portions: jam, honey, olives, cheese, dips, sauces, nuts and spices. They suit a Turkish breakfast (kahvaltı) spread, a mezze table, or coffee service, and work equally well as condiment dishes, pinch bowls for cooking, or ring and trinket holders.
Care: hand wash with a mild detergent and a soft sponge. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, and do not use in the microwave or dishwasher to protect the hand-painted glaze. Made in Turkey.
